Group eyes vacant lot for development

The South Side Neighborhood Association is considering the East Third Street property as a playground, basketball court, garden or other civic site.

The South Side Neighborhood Association is on a conversion mission.

The local group, along with the Oil City Redevelopment Authority, is eyeing a vacant lot on East Third Street for potential development into a children's playground, a basketball court, community garden or other civic site.

A survey to help decide the property's fate is being conducted by the association.

In addition to inquiring about what the site, located behind Best Printing, should accommodate, the survey asks residents if they would serve on a planning committee, volunteer to help develop the project, sign up to maintain the site or indicate a willingness to be involved in other ways.

The idea to convert the vacant lot will be explored at the association meeting set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, at the Free Methodist Church, 206 Wilson Ave.

Ron Gustafson, a member of the Oil City Redevelopment Authority, will be the guest speaker. An open forum about the project will also be featured.

The meeting is open to all interested persons. Survey forms will be available at the meeting.
