About 30 participate in 'greet and walk'
Photo by Jerry Sowden - The South Side Association, a community
group that wants to help curb crime in Oil City, held a "greet and
walk" event Tuesday evening with about 30 residents participating.
The group was organized in June in response to some incidents of
violence on the South Side of town, and the point of Tuesday's walk was
to encourage neighbors to mingle and meet each other. The gathering was
designed to reflect the association's mission of building neighborhoods
into safer, friendlier and more caring places to live.
The walk began at First Free Methodist Church on Wilson Avenue and
included neighborhoods in the East End and West End along with stops at
the church and Towne Towers.
The South Side Association will hold its second meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Free Methodist Church.
