Youth Initiative
The youth of our community are important
to our neighborhoods and we can't afford to lose them to drugs, to
alcohol, to violence, to dropping out of school or to years of lost
productivity. We want to engage the youth for their benefit as well as
for the good of our community. The Youth Initiative, which is composed
of area youth and adult advisors are working on their first project - The 814 Initiative.
The plan is to bring our youth together for a night of fun and food,
then to get them to think about how youth and the community can work
together to have a positive impact on our future. The youth will have
the opportunity to have their voices heard by addressing the following
questions:
Following the event, the Youth Initiative will use the ideas to develop
projects to make our community stronger. We are always looking for
youth and community members to join us in our efforts.

have the opportunity to have their voices heard by addressing the
following questions:
1. What can our community do to make this a better place for youth?
2. What can the youth do to make this a safer, friendlier and more caring place for all?
3. What can we do together to impact the drug and alcohol problems in our community?

814 Initiative Update
The 814 initiative first event on April
12,2008 was a great success.98 businesses, organizations and
individuals sponsored or volunteered during the event. We were
impressed and overwhelmed by this
positive response from out community. Over 100 youth and adults attended.
The teens had a great evening of music, dancing, food and fun, but our
main goal was to engaged them for their benefit as well for the good of
our community.
We talked about how teens and adults can work together to have a positive impact on our future.
The teens voiced many good ideas to the questions we asked. Our next
step is to share their great ideas with the school district, the city
and area organizations. We hope to find ways to implement some of the
ideas as an Association an hope to collaborate with other organizations
to implement others.
